Gongkhar Guest House is about 1.5 kms southeast of Chamkhar town, has 26 spacious rooms and bukhari with attached bathrooms. There’s a good view of the Jakar dzong, garden seating among amazing roses, excellent service and the food is among the best and most varied in the valley.
Rooms: We have 12 deluxe rooms and bathrooms are large, especially the cottage suites, which have a separate sitting area, big windows on three sides, balconies, and bathrooms containing a bathtub and separate shower. The deluxe rooms are exceptionally comfortable and your best choice.
The beds are comfortable and come with down comforters and pillows for staying warm on cold Bumthang nights, and rooms have bukhari wood-burning stoves as well as electric wall heaters for backup.
All the rooms wall are panelled and the floors with pine wood. The windows are traditionally carved and painted with Bhutanese auspicious signs and flowers. Bathrooms and linens are clean. Room service and laundry service are available.
RESTAURANT & bar
(A la carte and buffet style restaurant) serves pure organic Bhutanese, Chinese, Continental and Indian cuisines. Buckwheat pancakes, eggs, toast, and locally-made honey, jams, and cheeses for breakfast; momos, buckwheat noodles, ema datse and much else for dinner. A mimi-bar is attached within, specially the local whiskey (Ara) made from buckwheat can be an experience.
The dining room is huge and has a wood-burning stove that guests can gather around after dinner. Free wifi is found here and in the lobby area (and is not consistently accessible in rooms).

- Gongkhar Guest House is set on a hillside and offers plenty of morning hikes. “The old castle fortress Jakar Dzong” on a hill across the valley is lit at night and a sight you will not want to miss from balcony can be a memory.
- Walk around the Guest House would re-fresh you in morning and in evening seeing different fruits tress like; apples, peach, apricot and other many unique flowers at left and right of the path. Enjoy the freshness at canopy with a book or a cup of coffee.
